Cousins found from Robert WITHERINGTON/ Lovy OLDS line

It's been a year since finding Lovy's maiden name of OLDS. The other day, I was searching in www.usgenweb.com for the state of North Carolina and found a post by Cliff Darden which mentions the Witherington/Olds names. I contacted Cliff and he referred me to Martha Marble who, in turn, referred me to Mike Edge, director of Greene County Researchers for contact information for Sybil Thomas of Snow Hill, Greene County, North Carolina. I phoned Sybil and talked with her daughter, Dorothy and then Sybil. Sybil is 94 with a very sharp mind. They both gave family history information and I figured that Sybil and I are fourth cousins. Her line is 1. Martha Witherington md. Amos H. Joyner (Martha was the daughter of Robert and Lovy) 2. Charles Exum Joyner md. Ava Elizabeth Pridgen 3. Amos Henry Joyner md. Addie Melissa Sugg, then 4. Sybil Joyner md. Lewis Thomas. My line: 1. Lavina Ann (Lovy) Witherington md. Thomas Wiley P. Wright (Lavina is daughter of Robert and Lovy and is sister to Martha) 2. John Franklin Wright md. Annie Etta Wells 3. Verna Fay Wright md. Barney B. McBride, then me, Barbara McBride md. Robert Larry Vaughn. Sybil suggested I purchase the "Greene County Heritage" book because she has put her family history in it. I ordered it right away. She is also sending me more information by mail so I am very excited to have found her and Dorothy. More to come.

Maiden name found for Lovy Ann

Jul. 2012---I searched www.ncgenweb.us/greene/vitals/news-marr-deaths.htm and found the following:

Carolina Federal Republican Newspaper; New Bern, NC (CFRep) Mar. 5, 1814)

"Married. Greene Co. on the 24th Ultimate, Robert WITHERINGTON of Lenoir Co. to Miss Lovey OLDS."

My assumption: 24th Ultimate would have been Feb 24, 1814 since 24th of Mar had not happened yet.

After a little doubt, and a lot of hope   I immediately went to ancestry.com and looked for family trees who might have listed Lovey Olds and found several. Some have 5 generations back on her line.  There are several family stories and documents which all tie in to our Lovey.  Lovey mentioned her children and grandchildren's name in her will and these families are found in Greene Co, NC also.  In fact, there is a town there now, named "Olds".   Her daughter Martha and husband, Amos Joyner are found there in Olds in 1860 and in Snow Hill just a few miles away in 1880, both in Greene County.

Sometimes these ancestors tap me on the shoulder and tell me to look in a new website for their information.  Lately, I have been using http://www.ancestry.com/ almost every day in my research.  There is a fee to use that site, however, it is well worth it if you plan to do much researching.  They have census records, military records, birth, death and marriage records and much more.  I have put my family tree on their site as well as others so we can coordinate our family lines.  Another good site is http://www.familysearch.org/.  This site will be changing their name soon to familytree.org.  For a list of almost all websites that  pertain to family history research, see: http://www.cyndislist.com/.
